Michela Cattai solo exhibition “Acqua della Vita – The Water of Life -” at Ginza Ippodo

Michela Cattai LIBELLULA EMERALD

This exhibition, entitled “Acqua della Vita – Water of Life,” will feature a series of glass works in which the natural beauty of Murano Island in Venice is mysteriously reflected.

Michela Cattai’s glass works are artistic pieces that combine a painterly quality created by the arrangement of colors with a sculptural quality created by the opacity and distinctive curves. The free color arrangement, calculated and created by the artist herself, expands the painterly element of glass.

Michela Cattai does not seek simple beauty, but instead strives to reach the true essence of beauty by adhering to an “an-aesthetic” approach. This philosophy begins with an immersive approach in which the viewer is not taken into account when creating, and goes beyond visual “beauty.”

Her glass works created with the concept of “non-aesthetic,” encompass all of these elements. Her deep insights, the accumulation of time and respect in working with Murano artisans, her own experiences and philosophies.

It is a very meaningful moment for me to be able to return to this exhibition in Tokyo again.

I am currently represented by Ippodō Gallery, who have a deep understanding of my journey and are carefully conveying it to the people of Japan.

My presence here represents the meeting of two cultures with a deep sensitivity to the beauty that emerges from materials, the movement of the hand and silence.

Now on view – Saturday, June 7, 2025
Artist will be at the gallery on May 24 and 25.
