Tokyo Gendai Announces Participating Galleries & Sectors for Its 4th Edition

Thursday 25 June, 2026

Tokyo Gendai returns to PACIFICO Yokohama from 11–13 September 2026. This year’s edition brings together leading galleries and artists from Japan, Europe, the Americas, Asia, Oceania, and beyond, presenting an ambitious and multidisciplinary showcase of contemporary art. Taking place at the start of Japan’s traditional cultural season, Tokyo Gendai offers an unmissable opportunity to experience the very forefront of the global art ecosystem.

Presentations by globally active galleries unfold across thematic sectors. Alongside the flagship Galleries, Hana ‘Flower’, and Eda ‘Branch’ sectors, a new sector is introduced for 2026: Miki ‘Trunk’, dedicated to works on paper and printed matter, including photography. The returning Tane ‘Seed’ sector, dedicated to digital media, also makes its comeback after a two-year absence — together, the sectors bring the full breadth of contemporary art practice to life across the fairgrounds.

Galleries

The Galleries sector features curated, multi-artist presentations by leading galleries from around the world, including Pace Gallery (New York, Los Angeles, London, Geneva, Berlin, Seoul, Tokyo); Sadie Coles HQ (London); Taka Ishii Gallery (Tokyo, Kyoto, Maebashi); TARO NASU (Tokyo); Gana Art (Seoul, Los Angeles); Ceysson & Bénétière (Saint-Étienne, Luxembourg, Paris, Geneva, New York, Lyon, Panéry, Tokyo); KOTARO NUKAGA (Tokyo); The Page Gallery (Seoul); space Un (Tokyo); and A Lighthouse called Kanata (Tokyo). Spanning diverse perspectives and sensibilities, the sector offers a rich and layered encounter with contemporary art today.

Hana 'Flower'

The Hana ‘Flower’ sector is dedicated to solo and group presentations by artists at an early or mid-stage in their career. Participating galleries include Lett Thomas (Auckland), CON_ (Tokyo), Yoshiaki Inoue Gallery (Osaka), Yutaka Kikutake Gallery (Tokyo), and W—Galería (Buenos Aires, Pueblo Garzón), among others — a dynamic mix of international and local voices mapping the cutting edge of contemporary art practice.

Eda 'Branch'

The Eda ‘Branch’ sector presents solo and group exhibitions by established or historically significant artists, as well as thematically curated presentations. Ippodo gallery Tokyo (Tokyo) and MIZOE ART GALLERY (Tokyo, Fukuoka) participate in this edition, with presentations ranging from works that explore the intersection of Japanese tradition, nature, and modern society, to abstract sculpture that fuses Eastern and Western concepts of form.

Miki 'Trunk'

Debuting at Tokyo Gendai 2026, the new Miki ‘Trunk’ sector is dedicated to works on paper, including photography, drawing, and prints — celebrating longstanding traditional practices on paper, including many techniques integral to Japanese visual culture, as well as new interpretations. BANGKOK CITYCITY GALLERY (Bangkok) and Revolver Galería (Buenos Aires, Lima) are among the participating galleries, bringing an international perspective to this new chapter.

Tane 'Seed'

The Tane ‘Seed’ sector returns after a two-year absence, presenting works with a focus on digital media, including NFTs, animation, film, AR, VR, and gaming. Participating galleries include TAEX (London), Chi-Wen (Taipei), Project Fulfill Art Space (Taipei), Double Square Gallery (Taipei), and Takuro Someya Contemporary Art (Tokyo). For the first time, Tokyo Gendai debuts a special project within the Tane ‘Seed’ sector, featuring selected Taiwanese galleries and artists. Where technology meets human sensibility, the sector showcases the most forward-looking creative expressions of our time.
